STEP Young Comperes 2011

February 16th, 2012

25 young people (from Harris Academy Bermondsey, St Michael’s Catholic College and London Bubble) took part in Comedy Comperes workshops between October 2011 and February 2012 as part of the STEP Young Comperes Programme. The sessions were run by a comedy practitioner who taught the young people skills including engaging an audience, confidence with comedy material and how to work as an ensemble. The practitioner also guided the young people in creating their own material and routines. In November the three groups came together and created sketches for performance.

The groups from London Bubble and Harris Bermondsey performed for the first time on the evening of 22 November to a group of approximately 70 young people and went down a storm! The whole group performed to an audience of over 150 including 80 young people from Southwark at the STEP Youth Theatre Showcase in December, held at Southwark College. The performance was a huge success and the young people and their parents were incredibly proud of their performances.

Some of the young people took part in a performance event at the Salmon Centre yesterday evening and did themselves proud with comedy and dance routines and being the hosts of the whole evening. Many thanks for the Salmon Centre for welcoming us to their event!

This programme was kindly supported by Team London Bridge and the Peter de Haan Charitable Trust. And we are looking forward to extending this project in the future with further support from the Team London Bridge Small Grants Fund.
