STEP Work Experience Students on Theatre Local and Careers in Theatre

STEP work experience students Aminat, Dami and Rae from Harris Academy Bermondsey report back from attending a Careers Afternoon at Theatre Local in Peckham

How many jobs do you think there are to put on a production? 2, 3? Nope. Well we got to find at the Royal Court, Theatre Local that there is so much more to production than you think! From 4-6pm, we done a workshop based on careers in theatre. We rotated in a carousel speaking to different members of staff from the Royal Court, and learnt how they got to where they are now, the highs and lows of their job and also experience a little taster of their job.

So how was it? Well at first it was overwhelming to be around a bunch of new people, also to get an insight view of how much hard work it took to get to where they are. But overall it was a great experience. Meeting and learning new people and information will help us immensely in the future of our theatre careers. Before this workshop we had no idea what a communication officer was or what was a cultural diversity assistant but now we think we could write an essays about their jobs. So in the future when you're around Peckham drop into Theatre Local and ask about one of their workshops because we definitely advise you to go. It’s just something you CANNOT afford to miss.
