Restorative Approaches Training

 Monday 20th June, Tuesday 21st June and Tuesday 5th July 2011

A training course delivered by Caroline Newton (formerly Lewisham Restorative Approaches co-ordinator) in partnership with MakeBelieve Arts

Restorative Approaches are being developed successfully in schools to resolve conflict and build positive relations between all members of school and the wider community.

The key restorative principles are to:
* allow an opportunity for those who have been harmed or affected by harmful behaviour to have their needs met through a variety of restorative processes or meetings;
* allow those who have been harmed have a say in how that harm is repaired and
* enable those who have done harm to make amends.

There are several restorative methods that can be used in schools which enable young people to resolve disputes themselves or use the support of a trained facilitator, giving them the language and emotional tools to manage conflict.

The two-day, highly interactive, training course enables participants to use the restorative language in everyday practise and to facilitate small restorative meetings between students and re-connection meetings between staff and students.

If participants go on to do the third day they have the opportunity to practice larger and more complex meetings which may include parents/carers.

If demand is high, it is likely that only two places will be available for each organisation. However, you are welcome to apply for more than two places. If space is available, additional places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
