Prometheus Awakes - calling volunteer performers for world premiere!

February 15th, 2012

Prometheus Awakes is a new outdoor spectacle which will take place in the grounds of the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich on 22 June 2012. The premiere will be a free event held on the opening weekend of The Greenwich+Docklands International Festival (GDIF) (www.festival.org) and is supported by the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of The Greenwich Festivals.

Prometheus Awakes will be created by the globally recognised Catalan company La Fura dels Baus (www.lafura.com) with the UK’s original disabled-led theatre company Graeae (www.graeae.org). Graeae will also co-produce the production with The Greenwich + Docklands International Festival (GDIF) as part of the 12 week UK-wide celebrations for the London 2012 Festival (www.london2012.com/festival).

Prometheus Awakes will be the UK’s first ever large scale outdoor spectacle led by and featuring disabled performers.

We are calling for volunteers who want to be a part of this extravaganza which includes:
• A 42- person Human Net which is raised into the night sky.
• A vessel structure representing Fire which moves above the audience.
• A giant wheel moving amongst the audience.
• 6 people who move and operate the 24 ft (7 metres) Prometheus puppet.

We are looking for people who have a willingness to take on an extraordinary journey and be part of an amazing event. You don’t need direct experience of aerial work but you do need to have a real passion for spectacle and experience of dance, circus, theatre or sports could be useful. We particularly encourage Deaf and disabled people to apply and those from the 5 Olympic host boroughs (Greenwich, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest) as Prometheus Awakes will also form part of the 2012 CREATE festival.

A good head for heights is essential for this role!

The audition process will include putting on a harness and being raised into the air. You will have the time to explore moving at height. Please wear comfortable track suit type trousers, (nothing too baggy or with too many seams around the hips) and multiple snug layers around your hips and waist for your comfort. The auditions will be led by La Fura Del Baus, with Grant Mouldey, Lindsey Butcher and Tina Carter.
Auditions will take place on Saturday 10 March 2012 from 10am – 6pm at Circus Space N1 6HD www.circusspace.co.uk.

Rehearsals and performance dates are from 19-22 June 2012 and you must be available from 4.30pm until 10.30pm on each day in Greenwich. There will also be a half day briefing session prior to the work on site, date to be confirmed. Expenses of up to £125 will be reimbursed.

If you are over 18 years of age then please register your interest by emailing a CV and one paragraph outlining why you are interested to: training@graeae.org by 29 February 2012

Please specify access requirements or any physical information we need to take into consideration to ensure we have the appropriate access support on the day.
