The eighth STEP Out! performance is the best yet!

June 23rd, 2011

For the last three months STEP has been working in partnership with the Steam Industry Free Theatre, one of its 40 partner theatre and performing arts organisations, on their summer outreach project.

STEP Out! has been running for eight years and brings different schools from across Southwark together in a large-scale ensemble performance at The Scoop at More London. This year's project told the story of Around the World in Eighty Days and brought together young performers from Bessemer Grange, St George's Cathedral and Grange Primary Schools alongside 40 girls from Harris Academy Bermondsey for a colourful and action-packed performance on Tuesday 21st June. The rain held off and the young people showed off their dance, drama and drumming skills to the large crowd which gathered at The Scoop. Over 180 young people were involved, guided by three young professional actors and the Steam Industry's Education Director.

The project has an incredible impact on the young participants' speaking and listening skills as well as providing a great sense of achievement from performing in an outdoor, public space.

STEP would like to thank all the young people and teachers involved in making this performance a huge success as well as the Steam Industry practitioners for making this year's performance the best yet!

If you came down to see the performance, let us know what you thought of it on our Facebook profile.
